CLIENT TESTIMONIALS

"I came to John to help me recover from a lifetime of cocaine and alcohol addiction. I had relapsed many times and was desperate to get help. “While I have been sober for many years, John was extremely helpful in developing my vision and goals for my new business. He always sees the best in me and helps me see my own personal strengths and talents. As a coach of both the practical and the creative, John helps you manifest your dreams and make things happen. I’m so happy to be working with John during this transformational time in my life. He really does know how to help you build a happier life!"

"John began coaching me about 12 years ago when I suffered the greatest loss of my life: my husband. Although I was not afraid of using drugs or alcohol, my life was empty & in upheaval; I was grieving, depressed & frozen in fear. I was barely able to walk down the driveway to get my mail. Overwhelmed, not only with the emotional, physical & spiritual challenges of chronic pain & illness, I now had to plan a life & make countless life decisions. John's kind, caring, supportive (while still being firm) coaching sessions, restored my confidence. Step by step at my own unique pace (often baby steps), John helped me to break through fear & strengthen my ability to listen to my inner guidance to get to the clear vision of what I wanted to do in the future. What sets John's coaching apart from others is his support in taking action. He helped me take small, tiny, manageable steps, which resulted in the successful fulfillment of moving out West to my favorite city, Santa Fe, New Mexico... and I have been living here ever since. All these years later, John continues to coach me over the phone and I can leave messages and send emails whenever necessary. I am truly, truly grateful for all John does. I always know he is there to guide me through my challenges. From my heart, I deeply recommend John's coaching sessions.”

WHAT IS THE OFFICIAL DEFINITION OF RECOVERY COACHING?

Similar to life and business coaching, Recovery Coaching uses a partnership model wherein the client is considered to be the expert on his or her life, the one who decides what is worth doing, and the coach provides expertise in supporting successful change. Recovery coaching focuses on achieving goals important to the client, not just recovery-related goals. The coach asks questions and offers reflections to help the client reach clarity and decide what steps to take. Recovery coaching emphasizes honoring values and making principle-based decisions, creating a clear plan of action, and using current strengths to reach future goals. The coach provides accountability to help the client stay on track.

Recovery Coaching is a form of strengths-based support for people with addictions or in recovery from alcohol, other drugs, codependency, or other addictive behaviors. They work with people who have active addictions, as well as those already in recovery. Recovery coaches are helpful for making decisions about what to do with one's life and the part addiction or recovery plays in it. They help clients find ways to stop addiction (abstinence), or reduce harm associated with addictive behaviors. These coaches can help a client find resources for harm reduction, detox, treatment, family support and education, local or online support groups; or help a client create a change plan to recover on their own.

Recovery Coaches do not offer primary treatment for addiction, do not diagnose, and are not associated with any particular method or means of recovery. They support any positive change, helping persons coming home from treatment to avoid relapse, build community support for recovery, or work on life goals not related to addiction such as relationships, work, or education. Recovery coaching is action-oriented with an emphasis on improving present life and reaching future goals.
